A wild ride down a familiar road…with modern/ hysterical twists and a new take on characters who inhabit an irreverent Sherlockian world. Smart, witty, incredibly well written and produced. At times I was so genuinely surprised, I surprised myself. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on this oddball crew, they strike again. So creative and fun…I will have to listen again. In love!

This show is not only proof that you can tell funny, joyfully queer stories in historical fiction, but a rallying cry for more of them. A razor-sharp Victorian farce with a solid mystery, genre-perfect sound design, and a found family of characters it barely takes a second to fall in love with.

If you’re a fan of Sherlock Holmes and the humor of “Clue”, you’re gonna love this podcast. All the characters are well-acted and fully formed, whether they be the title characters or ones we meet along the way. Madge Stallion has quickly rose to a special place in my heart, and I can’t wait to hear more about her adventures with the boys!

SUMMARY: You may know Sherlock Holmes, but do you know his neighbors, the would-be detective team Fawx & Stallion, actually a trio? They are available for a mystery, any mystery at all, as Holmes & Watson leaves no crumbs. Luckily, the famous duo are on holiday, and it’s Fawx & Stallion’s time to shine. And fortunately, their first case involving missing jewels and a convicted, innocent women about to be hung, is knocking on the door.

SETTING: Victorian London, but without the oppression for queer love, basically.

POSITIVES: I enjoyed this madcap comedy and mystery for its neurotic and waggish characters, who still also had depth which develops towards the end of the drama, particularly. The mystery also has its twists and turns, and the plot isn’t forgotten for its jokes, but builds with foreshadowing, and pieces of info that become important episodes later.

NEGATIVES: While the important parts of the story resolved to a satisfying degree, such as the character conflicts and the main mystery, the getaway involved deus ex machina which just did not make sense. Also a particular technology one character uses to bring justice to a villain really doesn’t make sense either. Fairly forgivable missteps in light of an ending that pulled together for the most part, and was a funny riff on a poorly scheduled villain monologue.

OVERALL: A cleverly and thoughtfully written comedy that deals with topics like living underneath a large Sherlock-shaped shadow effectively.
