by Zen Mountain Monastery
The Mountains and Rivers Order (MRO) is a Western Zen Buddhist lineage established by the late John Daido Loori Roshi and dedicated to sharing the dharma as it has been passed down, generation to generation, since the time of Shakyamuni Buddha. Zen Mountain Monastery, the main house of the Mountains and Rivers Order, is one of the West’s most respected Zen Buddhist monasteries and training centers. Nestled in New York’s beautiful Catskill Mountains, the Monastery draws its strength from the ancient tradition of Buddhist monasticism. Since 1980, the Monastery has offered spiritual practitioners traditional and innovative ways to engage the dharma through a wide range of retreats and residential programs that unfold within the context of authentic, full-time Zen monastic training. The Zen Center of New York City: Fire Lotus Temple is the city branch of Zen Mountain Monastery. Supporting home practitioners in the metropolitan area, ZCNYC offers varied practice opportunities within the Eight Gates training matrix.

I found the podcast during Covid. I needed a podcast to cut my grass to and somehow landed here. Quickly I knew I stumbled onto something profound! The podcast has keep me centered for years now.
I have been a Baddest practitioner for over 15 years now. My Chan roots come with a language barrier. My Abbot and teaching monks have Mandarin as a first language. This sometimes poses the “lost in translation moment” . I wake up and row my rowing machine while listening to the podcast. Then I meditate. The podcast often clarify questions , missing understandings and just muddled concept's. I wish I could somehow download the complete library because each teaching is timeless. Many teachings hits hard and I repeat the lecture over and over hoping somehow it will become part of my makeup. During the pandemic the podcast were my lifeline pulling me back to the path. I find value in these teachings.! They help me grow past understanding. I’m just a old man just trying to humble my delusions. Thank you for the extra effort and effort reaching beyond your walls !!!
Listening to these talks has deepened my wavering practice over the last two years. I moved away from my sangha recently and these talks have really been useful in these times. With a deep bow thank you
I am new to the practice and have found ZMM as a virtual sangha during this difficult and unusual pandemic era. The talks always seem to touch on something I desperately need to hear. I am amazed at how Geoffrey Shugen Arnold Roshi keeps the discourse relevant to our time. It’s another wonderful reminder that Buddhism’s power is alive and real. We have a great responsibility to spread the dharma with skillful means during such pressing times.
