The Losers' Club: A Stephen King Podcast

Such a great podcast. Very re-listenable. If you are a writer, it’s perfect. If you’re fascinated by King, even better. All of the insecurities and joys that come with writing are discussed, a wide variety of opinions, very valuable! I’m in the car a lot for work, and this podcast makes my shift go by so fast.

I really enjoy a lot of the convos on this podcast and I love that they have a large coterie of amazing writers and King fans. Any show without “Rockin” Randall I love because I get to hear all of the losers very thoughtful and nuanced takes. But when Randall is on an episode he just consistently talks over everyone and shuts people down when they try to interject on him and even seems to move on the podcast immediately after he has said his piece. It feels many times like he barely listens to his co-podcasters and should really have a show by himself so he can scream into the void. Everyone else is awesome though and the only reason this podcast isn’t five stars is because of Randall

I found this show while looking for companion podcasts for IT: Welcome to Derry. So my review is only about those episodes. Pros: I liked that the hosts had different perspectives. I liked the “icebreakers” at the beginning. And some were very knowledgeable about the “King-verse” which was sometimes helpful. Cons: * Too many unrelated tangents. * Julia doesn’t dig the TV show. And that’s ok. But then don’t do a podcast about it. Her rules and strict interpretations just didn’t make sense most of the time. It came across waaaay too serious and judgy for a show that has already been noted to be based on sometimes limited info from the books. I wanted to fast forward past her comments. On every. Single. Episode. And I’m not saying they should sugar coat things. There were definitely some problems with the show and I’m glad they were addressed on the podcast. But it’s just not fun to listen to a podcast about a show you like from someone who seems to hate it. * While it’s cool to pull pieces from other King works - I think sometimes that led to tangents (and sometimes spoilers) from other King works. IT should focus on IT - and I think it’s fair to discuss characters that span different works (Halloran)- I even really liked the clarifications that the mist wasn’t THE Mist. But I think the discussions of other works was sometimes too much for a podcast that’s supposed to be a recap.

I’ve been listening to the Losers Club for several years now, and I enjoy their coverage as much now as I did when I first came across them. If you’re looking for mindless Stephen King worship, then this probably isn’t the pod for you. I enjoy all the unique perspectives, and welcome the criticism as well. They have a knack for articulating what I’m thinking, and their conversational format makes the show fun to listen to. I follow a lot of their other podcasting ventures as well, so I know their perspectives will be well thought out, whether they are discussing books, movies, tv shows, or other content. They’ve been going at it for about 8 years, and I sincerely hope they keep it going for many years to come. - Mike in DC

This used to be a fairly enjoyable show, but now it feels like they only complain about every aspect of the books, movies, and shows to drive engagement. I’m all for a debate, but lately everything is uniformed criticism. I want to allow the hosts to dislike something, but they often state things about story structure and production that are clearly wrong. I wish them all well, but after years of being a supporter and listener, it’s no longer worth my time.

On the Hollywood King episode from 5/30/25, one of the inconsiderate hosts just blatantly tells you the nickname of the killer from Never Flinch (completely without warning). It’s enough to make me unsubscribe from this so-so podcast. The show in general is good for getting some King FYI nuggets, even if the hosts’ personalities are lacking/boring. They will also spoil movies and books with utter abandon at times, so make sure you don’t listen if you haven’t already seen or read whatever the topic is.
