What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

As someone whose first introduction to classic film as a whole was Buster Keaton’s The General, I’ve really been a fan of the silent era. It’s quite hard to find a good podcast on them, but this one meets the demand.

I’ve just started listening to Golden Silents and every episode holds surprises. They are filled with thorough citations, knowledgable guests and delightful research rabbit holes into silent film’s continuing legacy- the origins of false eyelashes? Spongebob’s first night at the Krusty Krab? The show presents sympathetic biographies, analyses, film synopses, and a great “where are they now” bit that traces subsequent careers and includes directions to visit the stars at their final resting places. I especially love the focus on where actors, directors, and craftspeople came from, and locations where films were shot. What a great way to explore America and gain new appreciation for your hometown! Big bonus when you can track down a real life place where some silver screen star worked their magic:) As a Pittsburgh native, I love the Pgh and western PA material liberally scattered through the shows!

This is a MUST podcast to follow for all silent film fans, as well as anyone who is interested in old Hollywood, and interested in history. I fancy myself fairly well informed about old Hollywood & especially the silent screen era. However, I learn something new with each podcast to which I listen. Highly recommend this podcast!
