An unlikely super-hero origin story, The Beautiful Liar, is an original scripted series imagined by the band the X Ambassadors. When a blind teenager named Clementine (Rory Anne Dahl) suddenly loses her father, her world is completely upended — powers she didn’t know she had start to manifest and take the form of her secret friend, Shadow (Emily Hampshire, Schitt’s Creek). Moving to a new school, she struggles to hide her abilities from her friends - and band mates - as they fight to make the town a better place. Little does she know, her powers have triggered the attention of The Institute, a sinister organization who will stop at nothing to have her in their grasp. ~~ This heartwarming coming of age story is a companion narrative podcast to the X Ambassadors’ new album of the same name, The Beautiful Liar. Brothers and bandmates Sam and Casey Harris, grew up listening to audio dramas together since Casey has been blind since birth. Besides music, it was the only form of entertainment that the two could enjoy together. With a deeply personal motivation, Sam set out to create something in this inclusive and immersive medium. ~~ The Beautiful Liar premieres on 11/3 on Amazon Music ad-free with new episodes dropping every Wednesday. And, it will launch widely, wherever you get your podcasts, on 11/17. ~~ Produced by QCODE in association with Interscope Films. Created by Sam Nelson Harris and Minnie Schedeen. Starring Sam Nelson Harris and Emily Hampshire. Written by Cailin Lowry and Minnie Schedeen. Directed by Stefanie Able Horowitz. To learn more visit: qcodemedia.com

“The Beautiful Liar” takes advantage of the podcast format by telling a story within a story through audiotapes. As well as by having a blind protagonist who has an invisible sidekick named “Shadow.” The protagonist is also a musician, like X Ambassadors who have created the show, further taking advantage of the audio format for a dual purpose, to serve the story as well as a new album, I’ve heard. Fear not, this fiction podcast isn’t just a promotion vehicle. It’s well thought out with an intricate plot with twists and turns that pan out. As well as a developed teenage girl protagonist who is blind, has powers, and is also rebellious and chock full of hormones. And she has multiple secrets, as well as the other’s characters have their own. A very good story worth a listen, with a decent soundtrack and sound design. I even wished for a bit more music. Has potential with some dark trauma and genuine healing. I could wish for more complexity. If you want a short-ish listen (there was many ads, but thankfully blocked together in about four two minute segments and lengthy end credits), some innovative story telling, and a memorable and entertaining cast of characters, give this podcast a listen.
This podcast & the acting is amazing! But there are too many ads in this one considering how short the episodes are… & like the rest of the Qcode stories, we probably won’t hear anymore from beautiful liar which is a shame. I know putting these together takes a long time, but I seems like Qcode is more worried about making new stories rather than finishing ones they’ve already started.
I don’t know how I missed this when it originally came out. The Beautiful Liar album is my favorite by X Ambassadors, and this is amazing. I want a sequel so much!
The production value and story was awesome! However they never bothered to actually finish the story, which I found to be a major letdown .
