Shadow Kingdom

by Crooked Media & Campside

On New Year’s Eve 1969, Jock Yablonski, a union hero, is mysteriously gunned down in his bed. Jock’s son is convinced the head of the United Mine Worker’s Union is behind it. But why, and can he prove it? Decades later, lawyer Nicolo Majnoni embarks on a journey to find out who killed Jock and uncovers a conspiracy at the heart of the union.  Shadow Kingdom is a series from Crooked Media and Campside Media. Each season starts with a crime, and as the layers are peeled back to find out who did it, a larger system at play is revealed. Get early access to the full season by joining Crooked’s Friends of the Pod at crooked.com/friends.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

The writer and narrator deftly lays out the facts, and then spins them into a fascinating and compelling story. He’s a trained lawyer and it’s apparent, he would have been great at trial law.

Really great true crime podcast with good investigative journalism and a cinematic feel- can’t wait to see the movie! But here’s the thing- why were no women interviewed? Considered? What I know to be true in life is that the women most intimately involved in a man’s life - especially these dudes!— may have insights and know truths that would have helped along this investigation. To me, this was the one oversight of the podcast. … never, underestimate women!

Absolutely loving the storytelling of God’s Banker! The investigative reporting is fantastic and the presentation is excellent. I love the historical contexts provided. Cant wait for more!

This was a fascinating story and very well-told. I learned so much about a place in a specific time in history to which I had no previous exposure. The setting was almost its own character and the storytelling left me curious to know more.

It used to be if you paid for a subscription, you could listen ad free. However, this show, along with many others, doesn’t offer that option, or notify you of that until after you subscribed. I listened for 10 minutes until the first ad popped up then stopped the playback and deleted it. If you think I’m going to pay you to listen to ads, you’re out of your mind.
