Arts · Pop Syllabus with Christiana Mbakwe Medina
by Pop Syllabus with Christiana Mbakwe Medina
Pop Syllabus is a show where host Christiana Mbakwe Medina deconstructs the zeitgeist and answers the big cultural questions. How did we swing from body positivity to thin-being-in? Why do so many people trust wellness influencers over medical doctors? And how did tech oligarchs become the new celebrities? Think of Christiana as a cross between a messy news anchor and guerilla academic. Each week, she and an expert guest will unpack a buzzy topic, and help us understand the moment while going through it.

Just started listening and I love it! Great topics, love Christiana and the guest speakers, and thoughtful, nuanced commentary. Adding to my regular rotation!
I could listen to her talk about any topic all day. So thoughtful about subjects people always want to dismiss!
I’m loving these episodes. They’re so fun & informative in ways I didn’t imagine from a pop culture podcast. Just so enjoyable to listen to.
Very few people ask thoughtful interview questions and Christiana is one of the few. She pushes conversations and really shows how she is valuing the topic and wanting to learn and not just using the topics as clickbait. Also, she’s hilarious! Love her candor.
A recent episode was supposed to be about celebrity couples and the first 20 minutes was unnecessarily detailed background information about the guest, down to every nuance of her work locations. Focus on the celebs, that’s why we’re here.
