The first thing I listen to when I get up is NPR News Now. I want the truth with just the facts about what is going on here in the US and worldwide. NPR gives exactly that served in the 5 min bit size amount I need while getting ready for work. Then on the way home I listen to them again to get the update of what has happened during the day. Great news updates—it’s nice to be able to just get a quick update and it’s helpful that they delete all but the newest update so it doesn’t spam my feed with 24 episodes a day!

I really love NPR. I listen daily. I donate annually. And I am concerned with advertisements creeping into every inch of the enterprise. Up First makes you sit through 2 to 4 advertisements before starting. For a five minute hourly news brief, please, please, please spare us. I understand you have to pay the bills, but this is getting ridiculous.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for ten years. In the last two years they started to focus less on true news (information about events of substantial impact to millions of lives in the US and abroad) and instead began focusing on sensational stories. I feel like this show has turned into a rant of “this grinds my gears” and is so narrowly focused that it actually leaves the listeners with a biased and warped perception of reality. I’ve switched over to the BBC World News podcast which actually covers real news and leaves listeners smarter and more informed than this, frankly, poorly produced podcast that is more like entertainment than an informative resource.
