Hey guys, longtime listener here. This is in my regular rotation of shows i always listen to (usually on youtube). I’m a new parent myself and have enjoyed listening and supporting Wood’s journey into parenthood. Your audience is maturing with you and I hope you love doing this podcast for years to come because we really enjoy it at my house!
I found this podcast from watching wulfden videos on YouTube. I got a switch during the pandemic. I got super excited when Bob and Wood decided to do a weekly podcast. So I’ve been listening since day one. I’m really proud of Wood for keeping the show going for all these episodes while keeping the show fun and entertaining. I just wanted to say this show is a highlight of my week. Thanks for all the hard work the team does and I am already excited for the next episode.
So I am torn with this review. I have followed Wood for years on YouTube and really enjoy his content. The podcast is also enjoyable…until the commercials. I understand that this is a business, and adds pay the bills, but the frequency and placement of the adds ruin the show. A good podcast allows the conversation to flow, and the adds interrupt and derail the discussion. It’s a shame and will keep me from listening.
Podcast is great, but the ad breaks need to be fixed. They’re everywhere and in completely random places. If they were in the beginning or end or just a mid roll that would be nice, but they are completely random which breaks up the flow of the show constantly
Nontendo is a podcast that clearly has potential, but right now it's a frustrating listening experience that often gets in its own way. The biggest strength of the show is the hosts themselves. They bring a lot of energy, personality, and enthusiasm to every episode, making it easy to see why people would enjoy spending time with them. When they truly dive into the main topic, they do an excellent job of explaining concepts, providing background information, and educating the audience. Some of the occasional side discussions are also entertaining and informative. Unfortunately, several issues hold the podcast back. The most glaring problem is the advertising. The audio version seems to insert commercials every five minutes or so, and it becomes annoying beyond belief. Everyone understands that podcasts need revenue, but constantly interrupting the show destroys the flow of the conversation. If ads are necessary, place them at the beginning, middle, or end of the episode rather than breaking things up every few minutes. Another issue is that many episodes promise a deep dive into a topic but only end up brushing the surface. There are times when the title or premise suggests an in-depth discussion, only for the actual topic to receive surprisingly limited attention. As a listener, that can feel like being sold a false bill of goods. Finally, the podcast has a tendency to wander. Side tangents and unrelated discussions happen frequently, and many of them end up lasting longer than the main topic itself. While occasional detours can be fun, these ramblings often become distracting and make it difficult to stay engaged with the reason I clicked on the episode in the first place. Nontendo isn't a terrible podcast by any means. There is genuine talent here, and the hosts have the personality and knowledge to create something excellent. However, the excessive ad interruptions, lack of consistent depth, and frequent off-topic rambling make it difficult to recommend in its current form. Clean up those issues, and this podcast could become something special. EDIT: I can't listen to this anymore. I stuck with them for a while and the ads are way too much. It still doesn't help that they easily get distracted and will spend 20 minutes on the pronounciation of "Yu-Gi-Oh" and only minutes on the topic at hand like how expensive gaming has gotten. These guys HAVE to get rid of the frequency of ads and stay on point better. This is just bad.
I appreciate the voice you all bring to the gaming space and enjoy listening! However, it can be hard to enjoy when I’m blasted with ads every 10 minutes or so. I doubt the ads are catered to me since I keep getting gambling/casino ads and I don’t gamble or search anything gambling-related.
