Murder She Watched: True Crime Documentaries & Docuseries Recaps

by Amye Archer | True Crime Documentaries

Ever watch a true crime documentary and realize you’ve spotted the red flag long before the investigators did? Welcome to the inner circle. We’re just ladies of a certain age solving murders from our couches, and we’ve seen enough to know that the truth is always stranger than fiction. Hosted by writer, Amye Archer and friends, we talk about som of the most compelling true crime docuseries and cold cases out there. We bring decades of "seen-it-all" intuition and a sharp, skeptical eye to every piece of evidence, dissecting the clues that others miss. We don’t need a badge to know when someone is lying; we have life experience, a remote, and the collective wisdom of thousands of hours of true crime research. If you’re the type of person who stays up until 2:00 AM researching court transcripts and calling out the "obvious" suspect from your living room, you’ve found your people. Grab your coffee, get comfortable on the couch, and let’s get to the truth together. Episode drop on Wednesdays. For more content, visit us on Patreon.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I love Amye and her voice and everyone else’s voice who joins as co-hosts. I love the humor intertwined with the coverage. I love the tangents-I love it so much I wish the episodes were even longer. Keep doing great work ❤️❤️ you are appreciated

Amye and all her cohosts bring warm and entertaining analysis of true crime documentaries- with respect for the victims. And together we solve these crimes! Love it (in my best Bob Durst voice)!

LeilaMarieMI · Jun 2026

Amye and Becca have are real friends which is why I like listening so much. They don’t just recap a documentary you just watched. They have an actual conversation. Amye’s always spot on with why the narrative works or doesn’t. And Becca has such insights and is a natural comedian.

I’m loving this podcast! Heard Amye on Daily DVR and was thrilled to find a great podcast covering crime docs!

I used to love this podcast, but I am DONE. First, while Amye and her co-hosts claim to be progressive, they completely lack the knowledge to discuss racial issues. Amye is a prime example of the problem of white feminism. She also suffers from white woman missing syndrome, as do her co-hosts. Until they decided to review the Worst Neighbor Ever, Amye has never covered a documentary or series involving a missing or murdered person of color. Little did they know the third episode would be based in a diverse neighborhood. Amye said, “We should ask Becca (another white female co-host) about the neighborhood located in the East Bay,” they continued to make incorrect assumptions about racial dynamics. Second, Amye believes only mothers can have opinions about harm to children. She and her co-host Becca posted an episode about the difficulty raising children in this political environment. She incorrectly stated that Gen-X never went through anything as difficult as her children are today. Problem - single people are also struggling through this political time on their own. She also talks to another co-host Amanda as if she knows nothing about children because Amanda does not have biological children. In addition, to claim Gen-X never suffered through trying political times is ignorant and indicative of privilege. I can provide a list. Also, how about asking a person of color how their life has been throughout their lives? She also makes derogatory statements about southerners and those who live in rural areas. Again, this podcast is everything that is problematic with white feminism and women who believe single women do nothing to contribute to children and young adults.

I really enjoy the premise of the show and the true crime stories themselves. Unfortunately, the frequent political and cultural commentary has become distracting and often feels dismissive of people with different backgrounds and perspective. Unfortunately we are not all privileged and as someone who grew up and still lives in the south, I feel the rural and southern communities are portrayed through stereotypes rather than with the same understanding and nuance extended to other groups. Some of us are not as privileged and have had to farm, raise and hunt for food. I listen to true crime podcasts for the cases, the investigation and the storytelling but when broad assumptions and repeated social and political commentary become part of the narrative it takes away from the credibility of the content. I understand that this is a show about their opinions, but I’d love to see more of an inclusive approach that welcomes a variety of viewpoints without judgment. When the show focuses more on inclusivity, I will listen again.
