by Adam Graham|Science Fiction Audio Drama Podcast Host

Before Star Wars... before Star Trek… there were Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. These legendary space heroes captured imaginations across the globe with tales of rockets, ray guns, and far-off worlds—and in the 1930s, they blasted off from the comic strips into the airwaves in some of the earliest science fiction audio dramas ever produced. In this feed from The Great Adventures of Old Time Radio, host Adam Graham presents the surviving radio serial adventures of these two pioneers of planetary peril. First, journey with Flash Gordon launched into space by a paranoid scientist and crash-landed onto the strange and savage Planet Mongo. There, he joins strange allies to challenge the tyrannical Ming the Merciless in a thrilling, serialized science-fantasy saga from 1935. Then meet Buck Rogers, a 20th-century man who wakes up 500 years in the future—and quickly finds himself battling the nefarious Killer Kane as a space-age lawman in a rare complete story arc from the golden age of radio. Whether you're a fan of classic science fiction, pulp heroes, or vintage radio serials, this limited series offers a thrilling ride through audio history—featuring the characters who launched a thousand space operas.
