This hits the absolute sweet-spot for me: sci fi, movies, and guests with deep knowledge rather than just opinions. Ayesha is a host who obviously loves the material, and is masterful at keeping the conversation moving and getting the most out of the experts she invites on. I especially like the recommendations they give at the end, leading to even more films/books I hadn’t heard about before. I burned through the previous episodes, and the only frustration is having to wait for new ones.
It’s been a fun journey following this podcast since it started, being introduced to lesser known films or learning something new about the production or place in history of the ones I have seen. The bad reviews must be from pretentious as hell people, because there’s plenty of in-depth critical thinking, and Ayesha and her guests have perfectly fine broadcast voices.
I’ve been a fan of sci-fi films my whole life, and thought there wasn’t anything more to be said about these old chestnuts. I was wrong! Ayesha and her brilliant guests put all my old favs in a new perspective. Great to get lots of cultural and film context, and fresh recommendations too.
I’ve been listening to this show since the beginning and it just keeps getting better. It is a very academic look at many sci fi films over time. Ayesha has created a community for sci fi fans where we can follow along, watch movies, and learn about the production and art behind them.
Ms. Khan has a mellifluous voice, but a rather halting cadence that sounds like she's literally just reading the copy for the first time. And since everyone basically just talks superficially about a lot of subjects, it was hard to stay with this, and I love science fiction! To be fair, my bias definitely leans towards the in-depth kinds of podcasts, like The Plot Thickens, where they spend a whole season on one movie or artist. This one will appeal more to the fans of the "people just sitting around talking" style of podcast.
