Effortless English Podcast | Learn English with AJ Hoge

Thank you! I am pretty good at English, self taught, when I was very young I was fortunate enough to be able to use British council library where I could get a lot of audio and reading materials. I was worried about my child and wanted him to learn and be fluent in English and eventual in fact very soon to be equivalent to a native speaker. In my research I came across your book and eventually your YouTube materials and started using them. In few months I had amazing result with my boy despite the fact that I do it from far using Telegram and phone. I teach and talk to him in English and his mother in Amharic, our national language. Despite the distance he is now able to understand spoken English very well. He is improving everyday and I feel fantastic about it. Once he becomes fluent I will step up the project to having him access to native English speakers. His language improvement is helping him get better results in subjects given in English. I use other methods for written English. His reading comprehension is also improving so is his creative writing. When we are together both of us sit together with books and read and read. He listens and repeats spoken English, it has become a mantra (Listen and repeat, I remind him everyday). He also listens to POV stories and it is working. He reads stories and we practice describing and explaining based on the stories. He retells the stories he read in his own language and I think he is doing fine. When people hear me talking in English people think that I am talking to an adult, they can’t believe I am talking to a kid seven years old whose mother tongue is not English. Thank you AJ Hoge.

I'm a native english speaker, but my wife is an ESL student and was enjoying the show, so I gave a few of them a listen. AJ does a great job of combining clear pronunciation and new vocabulary with interesting, "adult-sized" topics. I especially agree with the premise of the "Independent Learners - Masters of Life" episode. Keep up the good work AJ!
