A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.
In the world with such polarized news reporting, 1440 has become my go-to resource for low-emotion news on a variety of topics. I love their daily email newsletter and these podcasts are icing on the cake, making it easy to listen to them while in my car or working out.
I thought the episode was very well done. The only thing that I think was left out and should have been mentioned was the estate tax. This episode made it sound like very wealthy people could just have their assets grow and when they die with the step up in basis, there is no tax. While that is true, anything they leave to heirs is subject to estate tax which can be very high.
A podcast form of what used to be referred to as the, “Reader’s Digest version”. It gives the reader enough information to understand some important concepts regarding the subject matter and often times inspires me to dig into it a bit further. Contrary to other’s reviews, I find the narrator’s voice very easy to listen to. She has a soothing voice but provides enough inflection and intonation so that one doesn’t drift towards slumber.
I’ve been reading 1440 for two years now. I’ve always appreciated their unbiased reporting with cited sources. I listened to their first two podcast and really enjoyed them. I look forward to seeing what they come out with next.
The podcast on Credit Cards was a disappointment because it missed a big reason customers are being pushed back to cash transactions - that businesses are adding 3-4% to any bill paid with a credit or debit card to pass charges back to us - on top of raising prices to compensate for fees.
