As an AEW fan, I used to count on WhatCulture (and Michael Sidgwick in particular) to give fair and insightful criticism of AEW’s shows. It seems that in the last couple of months— and definitely since the start of the year— AEW has been putting on consistently great programs that are extremely well received by fans. Listening to this podcast is deflating. No matter how over the show is, the response here is always, “It was good, not great, I just wasn’t feeling it.” I think this podcast is actively undermining my enthusiasm for wrestling, particularly AEW. It does not seem to view AEW the same way fans do and the reviews are largely the same weekly, regardless of how successful the shows are. WhatCulture has gone from mandatory to skippable. They need to restore the feeling.
I enjoy the daily news pods. I love ups & downs. Most of the lists are fun too. The main pod is just too much yapping about nothing. This is a wrestling channel and their main pod often spirals on about nonsense for far too long.
A lot of fun and a lot of great insight. Its a normal part of my day and I enjoy it immensely in the moments when World’s Most Miserable Man (TM) Michael Sidgwick isn’t dragging everything down with the bitter indignation that he’s actually being made to do his job.
Writing this not to disparage this channel, just want to voice my observations. Is it time to update the podcast introduction?? Wednesday-Dynamite preview Thursday-Dynamite review Friday-Collision preview PPV reviews/previews as they come up But yet my feed doesn’t reflect this cadence. And hasn’t in quite some time. What’s up with this? The lack of energy/coverage around AEW is unavoidable lately. Love this channel and everyone who contributes to keeping everything up and running, but I’m really missing out on what keeps me coming back to WhatCulture. Five stars because this channel absolutely earns it, but please get back to regularly covering AEW programming.
I listen to a lot of wrestling podcasts but this one by far has the most advertisements. I get revenue has to be made, but there’s a point where it becomes absolutely excessive. On top of that, many of these episodes are just what they upload on youtube. I don’t really hear any actual podcast happening.
I think these guys are very good at what they do, but a lot of these Dynamite reviews and previews have too much filler and too many tangents. The most recent Dynamite preview only talked about 1 match/thing on the show in the first 41 minutes of the podcast. Even if you subtract a few minutes for the ad break, that’s still a bit much.
