The Lapsed Fan

Start w WM journey or the World Class Wrestling series. The research Jack does, and his ability to tie that research together to form a clear story for the audience consistently amazes me. I’ve learned volumes from listening, and Jack, who clearly had great teachers in his life, anticipates things that muddle a fan’s understanding and clarifies them. JP makes me laugh out loud at least twice an episode and smile involuntarily 100 times an episode. I’ve never met these guys, but they talented, unpretentious, and immensely committed. The episode on the Godfather was incredible too - I would listen to these dudes talk about anything they research on Earth. If I could afford to pay them for their content, I would do so in a minute.

At first, the incessant laughter turned me off.. but then I decided I can’t penalize these guys for enjoying themselves. Their deep dive on the career of Terry Funk in Japan got me hooked on TLF. Nobody does a better job of covering their subject than JP & Jack. If AEW is for the modern wrestling “sickos” then TLF is definitely “that cast” for the lapsed sickos. Like Meltzer reviewing a Tokyo Dome match, TLF is a ***** rating every time.

HEAVEN NEEDED CHAMPION. I love this podcast dearly, I listen to it when studying for classes and something to mellow out too at light. a few times were roommates have knocked on my wall to keep my laughter down. lol!! amazing podcast 🤩🤩

Got into this podcast because I wanted to learn more about the impact of wrestling in the 1990s. I stayed for the Vince/Helen/Nash imitations. As someone who got into wrestling this year, I appreciate the energetic and informative nature of this dynamic duo. If you really want the full lapsed experience, watch the PPVs on mute while listening to their recaps. Pure entertainment!

A novel concept for a show in theory, but in execution a tedious and mean-spirited slog. A slow moving, self-satisfied, endlessly repetitive sludge of in-jokes and bad skits, made even more unlistenable by the weathering distain constantly exhibited by the two hosts. The hosts certainly do their research, but the good is outweighed by hours upon hours of bad. Definitely skippable.

Two old boomers that occasionally make hilarious observations other podcasters don’t, but then they constantly pine for boring old matches with 10 minute bear hugs. Just constant nostalgia humping for the most mid era of wrestling. They also run ads every 4 seconds.
