Film Reviews · Marijane Miller & Nathaniel Thompson
by Marijane Miller & Nathaniel Thompson
Watching Movies with my Mom is a comedic, insightful podcast about how to watch movies with your mom (or any sensitive viewer) without subjecting them to excessive gore, explicit sex, or disturbing violence—while still preserving the surprises and suspense of the movie. (No spoilers!) Each episode breaks down a favorite movie and “translates” it into an easier viewing experience. We’ll let you know when to look away, turn off the sound, or just skip a moment entirely. And we’ll tell you why we think it’s a movie worth watching - even if it has some challenges for sensitive viewers. Your Hosts Nathaniel Thompson launched the comprehensive film review site, Mondo Digital, in 1998 and has written four books about cult and international cinema (with a fifth on the way). For 15 years he has been a regular contributing writer for Turner Classic Movies, and he was a weekly contributor to FilmStruck during its run from 2016 to 2018. For the past decade, he has written regularly for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and worked as a DVD and Blu-ray produce3r for 10 years with Image Entertainment. He also worked with DreamWorks SKG soon after its founding and has appeared on over 150 audio commentaries to date. You can also see him in front of the camera in such documentaries as King Cohen, It Was a Colossal Teenage Movie Machine: The American International Pictures Story and 1982: One Amazing Summer. Marijane Miller has over 25 years’ experience in network television, online video and feature documentary production. Her strong background in informational and educational content includes Emmy-winning children’s programming for network and public television. Marijane has created documentary content for national nonprofit organisation websites as well as online video/informational solutions for national brands. She more recently wrote, produced and directed two feature documentaries and currently writes weekly video news reports for the nonprofit InvisiblePeople.tv.
