Tells me what I need to know about a film when I’m deciding whether or not to see it in theaters
Leaving the Theater feels like sitting down with a friend after a movie who also happens to be a sharp critic and a great storyteller. Ron brings a mix of insight, vulnerability, and humor that makes every episode feel personal and engaging. He doesn’t just talk about what happens on screen, he explores why it matters and how it connects to us. His perspective always feels grounded, thoughtful and candid. When he has a guest on the show, the discussion is lively, fun, and respectful. If you love movies and want a podcast that’s concise, fun, and smart, this is absolutely worth subscribing to.
Ronald young jr. is the best! He has so much joy (love listening just to hear him laugh) and I love listening to him talk about movies. He is fair and honest and rooting for filmmakers and writers and actors! He’s my favorite “critic” (in parentheses because he is t your typical pedantic, caustic critic). Keep up the great work! Also love you on pop culture happy hour! You are always the best guest host!
When I was introduced to this podcast via PCHH, I was excited to have a movie review podcast with a Black voice leading conversations. I looked forward to pressing play on this show after walking out of the theater after seeing a film myself. After over a year of listening, I find myself left disappointed by the host’s consistent bleak tone at nearly every moviegoing experience, especially as of late. As a listener, it feels like the show and movie watching is an inconvenience to him. It comes across like it’s an obligation and burdensome to see the movie and talk about them. He comes across entitled as if he does the show as a vehicle for access to industry events/perks and a way to be a part of the conversation but not because he actually likes moviegoing, unless it’s his specific type of movie — which seems to be very rare these days.
