As someone who hires photographers and freelance creatives, The Terrible Photographer has quickly become one of my favorite listens (& lessons). Beneath the sharp wit, cringe-worthy gig stories, and dry humor is a surprisingly generous and insightful look at the real courage it takes to pursue your craft full-time. It’s made me a better client – more thoughtful, more attuned to the realities behind the art(ist). Even as a recreational photographer, I feel like this podcast speaks directly to me. It’s smart, honest, and unexpectedly inspiring.

Patrick’s understanding of this industry and hearing about his journey (good, bad and the ugly) make this podcast relatable to all creatives. Every episode leads me to dig deep and really think about the “why” when I look through my camera’s viewfinder. Additionally, I’m looking at things from a different perspective when it comes to promoting my work. Patrick is empowering me to be bolder, post what I value and ignore algorithmic patterns. His storytelling connects both current and historical events in a way that influences a variety of creatives, making every podcast a unique, listening and learning experience. This has fast become my favorite photography podcast! Patrick is a really talented writer, and these episodes are really inspiring and well produced. I love a lot of photography interview podcasts, but the format of this show really stands out and I always look forward to new episodes!

I love this podcast because it’s different. It’s not a get-rich-quick road map, it’s not about getting/using the best gear. It’s insightful, contemplative, somewhat historical, and yes, charmingly cynical, in a good way. It’s motivation and inspiration to deep dive into the roots of our passion for photography, to reignite a spark, or to fan the flame of our creativity without the societal pressures to do things “right”, conform, or perform.
