Performing Arts · Gillian Pensavalle
by Gillian Pensavalle
In this podcast about all things Hamilton, host Gillian Pensavalle speaks with guests, and sometimes co-host/all time husband Michael Paul Smith, about the innerworkings of the show, how it came together, what it takes to put on all around the world, finding Hamilton references in everyday life, and much more. The Hamilcast has played host to every member of the original creative team, aka "The Cabinet", including repeat visits from Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Hamilcast features interviews with cast members from every Hamilton tour, Broadway, and UK company--crew members, musicians, creatives, and the hard working people behind-the-scenes that keep the production alive. Plus: historians, super fans, celebrity Hamilton enthusiasts, and group cast recordings! When I started this podcast in January of 2016, I could not have imagined the incredible community that has grown around the show and the amazing experiences that have come my way. Thank you to everyone who has listened, appeared on the show, contributed, or reached out in any way. This podcast is for you and I absolutely love making it. This is far and above my favorite deep dive into, anything! Maybe it’s because it was started by Gillian, who had not seen the show when she started the podcast or because of her genuine love for “the thing”, but either way, this podcast is the best. She makes all of her guests feel at home, and helps the listeners to feel like they are part of the interview, even including questions from the Patrion Peeps. I raise my glass to Gillian and this wonderful podcast!!
I started listening to Gillian during COVID. Her podcast brought joy to my life and has inspired a deeper love for the theater. During a dark time in the world, this podcast has brought light!
As someone who is very interested in making a career out of music, this podcast only adds to the fun. I love that Gillian has friendships with some of the original cast, it makes it so interesting to hear different stories from people who have helped me build by personality throughout my life as a teen. You really should get Jasmine Cephas Jones on here about Peggy/Maria!
THE BEST!!! I have learned SO much about theater in general (not just Hamilton, but of course Hamilton). I’ve always loved the ‘background people’ but getting to hear from literally EVERYONE from on stage IN the spotlight, to the incredible crews BEHIND that spotlight. The intricacies of each ensemble/swing member, the musicians in the pit. Gillian really does her homework and is able to bring something fresh and new each episode. She’s a true, loving FAN of theater and brings that joy each week! Don’t even get me started on her talented edits! And if you haven’t met the Patreon Peeps yet, you’re missing out (IYKYK)
I used to love this podcast. Now the episodes are stale and repetitive. Listen to the first few years. They were great. I also can’t tolerate that the podcast host is complicit and silent about abuse based on the Obsessed Network.
