What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

If you want to meet the real characters behind the scenes that inspired the edgy series, this is the podcast. Like the series, each interview has a nice reveal, and something unexpected in store. The interviewer has a good background and knows how to draw her guests out in an enticing manner. Loved that series and the interviews are a great way to savor it again while we await the next installment.

I would love more of the interview with the people who actually do these jobs. Fascinating and well done.

The Diplomat on Netflix is great show! Unfortunately this podcast focused on the most boring aspects of the making of the show and the least interesting opinions of the foreign service professionals that were interviewed. “How do you feel about your character” is a mediocre question, and asking it over and over again turned it into filler. Now we all know about the personal relationship each actor, writer and producer has with the show runner — spoiler alert, they like her. The foreign service professionals were well chosen and had intriguing backgrounds, but could have been asked more questions that pertained to the story line. Even the topic of the ambassador’s personal appearance could have been made fascinating by delving into what’s in a female ambassador’s wardrobe, what percentage of their time/income is put towards clothing, and compare/contrast to the current US ambassador to Australia who appears in gowns with makeup and blow out for formal events but otherwise presents a relaxed casual image (sneakers at public appearances, minimal makeup, no-fuss hairstyle). A goldmine of content was missed. Still excited for the next season, but I already warned others to avoid this snooze fest.
