I love humor. Humor helped me through a tough time in my life. When I listen to someone talk or watch a movie that’s funny, I usually laugh on the inside. I smile. But rarely do I laugh out loud. Your podcast makes me laugh out loud! I truly appreciate the spontaneity and the clever wit. One feels rehearsed; the latter wins my funny bone every time. I’m not a strong reader. I know education is beneficial, but I struggle with reading skills and often feel frustrated when I try to practice. Somehow, The Book Pile appeared on my radar, and I’m so glad it did. You provide super-charged Cliff Notes, and I genuinely appreciate that. I feel like I’m getting smarter — reading therapy! I’ve even bought audiobooks you’ve recommended. Thank you!!
Kellen and Dave aren’t trying to prove anything (except maybe about JFK) and that’s why this podcast is set apart from 99% of others. It’s funny and interesting and very heartfelt. Just listen to it. If you don’t, you’re a doofus.
I don’t believe this has ever been seriously said, but this podcast is one of the most meaningful uses of my time (with my children), and I’m thankful that you are both resting. Such wisdom. If you never record another episode, the back catalog alone is a window into a lifetime of listening and reading enjoyment. God bless you.
I first came across Kellen’s work when I saw a video of one of his specials he recorded in Provo where he made fun of my high school mascot (it was deserved). When I found out he did a podcast, I figured I would enjoy that, too, and it’s been really fun to go through the catalog from the beginning whether I’ve read the books or not. The episodes covering Lord of the Rings are a nice contrast to the super nerdy podcasts I listen to that dive super deep into all the lore and meaning behind Tolkien’s writing.
