The Board Game Design Lab was created for one purpose: to help you design great games people love. To accomplish that goal, this podcast interviews designers, publishers, and board game insiders on specific topics related to game design. I don’t waste time talking about recently played games or pop culture. Instead, the show does a deep dive into subjects that I hope you’ll find extremely valuable as you progress through your game design journey.

We are in the middle of tweaking a game that my grandsons and employees have been working on for over a year. It started as a training program to learn how to take an idea from concept to viable product that can be manufactured in a small shop or from home. Little did I know how little I know. 😂 This show provides answers but more importantly the questions anyone who sets out to make a game should be asking. If the “Space Ordinals Game” has any measure of success some of the credit should go to this pod cast.
I had recently found this podcast and all I can say is WOW! The most recent episode with Amy and Dusty is probably one of my most favorite pod casts I’ve listened to in a LONG time! The insights were incredible, the data was raw and gritty with details you rarely hear from publishers. The overall flow and conversation was genuine and VERY helpful. This has quickly hit my favorites list and you now have another loyal listener! Keep making content! It’s great!
I started listening in 2023 and found each episode so relevant to my interests that I listened to every show from when Gabe Barrett started in 2016. Gabe creates shows with excellent and relevant topics on board game design and has had interviews with many key people in the industry. There is so much great material on board game design in this show that Gabe has even compiled it all into a book and other design aids. I was so glad to see Gabe resume the show in 2023 after a one year break in which he was focused on getting his Robomon game released.
I’m a late comer to board game design, and to this podcast, but I’ve immersed myself in both, and this podcast has been a phenomenal help!!I haven’t even touched the numerous streaming options on tv because I have this to listen to while I stay focused on “work”. Great job Gabe!
