I’ve been listening to this podcast for 7 years and I’ve always enjoyed the stories. While I was happy with Otis as the only host I especially loved the duality that was introduced when Malcolm joined! It seemed like Chilling Ent. knew it was time to widen the “world” a bit and Malcom being Otis’ neighbor was perfect!! I was a bit worried with everything Otis posts on social media so this partner joining him felt like a way to keep things on track. While it does feel like the passing of the torch…it’s a natural thing that should happen with the passage of time. I personally think that Malcom is doing a superb job honoring Otis’s work. He has a great tone and his pronunciation is on point! Otis is for sure a great and Malcom has proven he can fill the shoes Otis has left. Looking forward to more stories!
I’m subscribed to many creepy podcasts and have listened to almost all on this channel. Otis is amazing and his stories are stellar. I enjoy most, except those that involve child abuse (I Skopje through these as they upset me more than scare me). However, being a enthusiast on scary stories, movies, and history, I feel this is a dying art filled with gore and quick deaths. However the 2 part story, S4E10 Dirty Jobs, finally tingled my sense of being creeped out.
This is one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to over the years. I only gave it 4 stars because I miss Otis. Malcolm has a wonderful voice and I enjoy his stories, but over the years Otis has been “the voice”. With Otis just gone with no notice, the show feels a bit empty.
Still well-produced and competently told, Scary Stories Told in the Dark lost its quiet terror when Otis Jiry left. Nothing is “wrong” now — and that’s the problem. Horror needs unease, restraint, and breath between words. The stories remain. The haunting does not.
I discovered Otis and now am trying to figure out how to break into the voice acting world. His ability to connect the audience to the story is uncanny. Love the stories that make your skin crawl. Thank you Otis. Edit: changed my rating from 5 star to an unfortunate 1 star. Jiry was AMAZING. Blackwell isn’t a very good storyteller though. He ends by explaining the story as if the listener isn’t smart enough to grasp the story itself. It’s like telling a joke, not getting a laugh, and thinking that explanation will save the joke. It’s annoying and insulting. Otis built this house and listening to the past seasons will continue to be a recommendation I give out. But I’ll also be saying that when Otis leaves, so did the enjoyment.
