Entertaining, informative, and very interesting. The pacing is really good. Keeps moving, stays light, and every second is packed with New-to-me references that pique my curiosity. This is one of the most intelligent yet accessible podcasts I’ve listened to. The episodes take all this messy, niche information and create surprising insights about US culture that hit spot on. I am really glad I found this podcast. It is like having a friend to watch the end of the world with.
Great, informative but also hilarious work! I feel a little less crazy, a bit more aware and better able to understand people around me with each episode. Didn’t expect quite so many gooning references and I’ll never be the same! Thank you, I think!
I’m a millennial who missed the era of the fun internet and wikiholes so this pod just hits the spot in terms of great research, niche guests and pop culture. Viva La Panic World.
Show has been amazing so far. Good depth, solid research, and very important and topical topics. It can be funny, insightful, and thought provoking. The guest are quality and have interesting backgrounds and points of view. Last episode, they like most of the world talked about the generations and left out Gen X. Considering how fundamentally Gen X has changed work culture, shaped modern technology and big tech, and the country economically it's a massive oversight which I thought you'd all do better. Let me know when you plan to rectify this with a Gen X themed episode. With Gen X currently having the largest pot of disposable income, who knows could help your Patreon.
The latest episode about AI exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding of the technology behind the modern AI boom. Any writer who would even espouse the idea that chatGPT functions similarly to a search engine can be immediately discredited as not understanding the underlying technology behind LLMs and other generative models. Transformers are glorified autocomplete. There is no semblance of a path towards a “singularity” or “AGI” in the literature and to suggest otherwise is at best foolish and at worst deception. I question any podcast that would post such a poorly researched episode.
Good premise, poor execution. The reporting on this show is trivial at best and the hosts think they are the smartest people in the room. Kind of embarrassing listening to them with how wrong they are with their information. Gave it a few episodes but I’m out. Not worth my time.
