Ozarks True Crime

There are so many great things about this series. The stories are of course interesting but it is well researched and very well edited. The light touches of sound design are done well too. It’s my pet peeve that so many podcasts use such obviously canned music. I do think longer episodes would be appreciated. Since it’s been almost a year since her last post, I’m not sure if this podcast will continue. I hope so.

I really enjoy this podcast. It’s not really common to find a show that has different cases/topics each season and every season be a banger. Every seasons case is unlike the other that it hasn’t gotten repetitive or stale. Through investigations. I’m on the third season after binging for two days.

Yup, I’m a fan. One thing that always aggravates us people of the Ozarks is when writers or producers don’t get us. It’s not like it’s hard, we’re pretty common folks. But they tend to portray us and our location in a way that is not authentic. We don’t mind showing non-native people what’s behind the curtain (I can promise you it ain’t a wizard) as long as it’s authentic. It’s a poor region, we gots lots of problems. But we also have lots of good. Anne gets us, she writes us in a way that is true to the region but still it’s entertaining to other folks that aren’t from the Ozarks. The stories are great and her research is incredible. You can trust she’s telling the story based on the evidence, not opinion.

In a sea of true crime shows, this one stands out as one of the most meticulous. The host’s devotion to detail as well as hearing every voice yields truly fascinating, gripping episodes. A must listen not only for those interested in these particular cases but for true crime and mysteries in general.

The episodes are way too short! 15 minutes, not including commercials, is not a podcast episode. I spent more time fast forwarding than listening. Also, the narrator and the journalist that was in every episode practically spoke in a monotone whisper. I kept turning it up when they spoke and down when others spoke.
