Music History · Betsy Brumley
by Betsy Brumley
Did you know that the songs you hear on the radio today might have deeper roots than you think? I’m Betsy Brumley. Together we are going to explore those connections. Having grown up at the feet of legends like my grandfather, Albert E Brumley, who helped write the American songbook with songs such as I’ll Fly Away, and family friends like Kitty Wells, Buck Owens, Ernest Tubb and Grandpa Jones. I’ve always been fascinated by how the past influences the present. I’m sitting down with today’s music industry power players to ask these questions: Who decides what we listen to? And how much does our heritage really dictate the hits of today? Is today’s music a new frontier or a reimaging of the past? Let’s find out together.
