Oprah’s Book Club

This book is well researched, well written: It is a gift not just to America but also to the world. Both it’s author, Ms. Isabel Wilkerson and Oprah’s Book Club have performed an indelible service. I am extremely grateful. Please, even if you don’t anticipate that you will agree with the book, take a little time to read “Caste.” Or at the very least listen to the podcast series. Or you could go see the film, “Origin,” opening in February 2024.

Don’t play yourself and think that you are free of the need to read or know this information. This book is the truth that Americans wish to disregard continually simply because THAT discussion would bring forth THIS truth. I’ve waited to listen to this convo because I had not yet read the book but today I write this as a newly informed woman. Wow— our futures are brighter because of this ground shaking work. Isabel Wilkerson has a wonderful way of bringing dry material to life and making it enthralling reading. The horror of what our culture has inflicted on POC, minorities and truly all of us through this caste system is really on display in these pages. I’ll admit I didn’t know some of the history discussed and felt ashamed that I never knew it. I also find it fascinating that there are still a number of people who are made so incredibly uncomfortable when they hear about this topic that they feel the need to denigrate both Oprah and Wilkerson rather than taking a look in the mirror. Their reviews of this podcast say all that needs to be said about just how far this country has yet to go in terms of really addressing the root causes and finding solutions. This book and podcast are a place to start. Intelligent, insightful writing. Much appreciated.

After listening to the audiobook of Caste, I’ll never be the same again. This book is a revelation. If people could just be open to receiving the message of this book, it would fundamentally change our society and the interactions we have with people who are different from us. These conversations between Isabel and Oprah are an essential must-listen
