Most podcasters make you feel informed. Chris makes you feel like someone finally said it. He’ll name the thing the whole room was dancing around, question his own take two minutes later, and come out the other side more honest than anyone else in the conversation. I trust his curiosity more than I trust most people’s conclusions.

Cristin Michelle · May 2026

My favorite show to listen to by far. Brilliant guest and Chris’s brilliant questions make for a vey interesting listen. You learn so much from every single episode.

Ioannap13 · May 2026

I don’t mind a bold interpretation of The Odyssey. I welcome it. What I find more difficult to accept is an interpretation that feels limited in scope. Listening to the Modern Wisdom episode, I came away with the impression that the discussion did not fully engage with the depth of The Odyssey. Whether or not that reflects the hosts’ familiarity with the text, the conversation often suggested a more surface-level approach. Certain questions seemed to overlook key elements of the poem, and some central themes were left underexplored. At times, the discussion leaned toward present-day moral frameworks rather than sustained engagement with Homer’s complexity. Rather than delving into one of the most intricate works in the literary canon, the episode tended to simplify it into a set of broad observations. Some interpretations struck me as reductive, particularly in moments where complex characters appeared to be framed through contemporary stereotypes rather than examined within their original context. I had hoped for more from Alex Petkas. Given his background, I expected a deeper exploration of the poem’s historical and literary dimensions. While he contributed to the conversation, there were moments where further clarification or expansion might have enriched the discussion and addressed some of its more limited interpretations. The Odyssey has endured for nearly three thousand years because it resists easy categorization. It is a story about intelligence, endurance, grief, temptation, justice, homecoming, identity, hospitality, and the complexities of human experience. Each careful reading reveals new layers. This discussion touched on only a small portion of that richness. If this podcast is your introduction to The Odyssey, it may be worth treating it as a starting point rather than a definitive account. Reading Homer directly offers a fuller sense of the poem’s depth. One of the greatest works ever written invites—and rewards—closer attention.

Why anyone in Gen Z or any Millennial would want to listen to Williamson, who is so insecure but tries really, really hard to fake it (Okonkwo anyone?), who is clearly afraid of women, and who is not married or has any children himself for ‘modern’ wisdom is beyond me. I wanted to like this podcast, but after listening for nearly two years, each episode seems to go further and further down a rabbit hole of conspiracies and cherry-picked data that echo Williamson’s conservative agenda. No real discussions going on here, even when he does manage to have some decent guests on (Scott Galloway, Richard Reeves, Rangan Chatergee); he just simply talks past them and name drops every tech bro and manosphere influencer that pops into his head as a retort. Definitely nothing “modern” here.
