As a long-time Womens hoops fan, I was thrilled to find this gem of a show on Womens college ball, WNBA, and more. It’s fun, informative, and an overall great listen/watch. I never miss an episode as these folks are so welcoming and so amazing in how they break things down for everyone. 10/10 no notes!

I’m relatively new to sports fandom (W in particular) and I learn so much from listening to these smart folks. It helps me get more out of the games. Special kudos for not shying away from tough topics like race and sex/gender, but also offering more than knee-jerk opinions.

I’m a longtime listener of No Offseason. I recently started listening to the July 30th episode entitled “The Teams That Will Define The WNBA’s Second Half” but had to stop after about 15 minutes in order to unsubscribe and send the review.
Regarding Sophie Cunningham’s transphobic remarks couched under the false guise of “protecting girls in sports,” it was disappointing that there was not more discussion of what she said, how it was harmful and why it should be called what it is: transphobic. I understand that you only have so much time to unpack the news but considering how her comments have spread to the point of causing a “rally” outside the Storm vs. Fever game (which granted only around four people attended but still…) I would think this would warrant more than just a direction to another podcast about the subject. Especially because, let’s be real: the impact of her spewing hate speech is more than just basketball news. It has day-to-day consequences for trans kids (one need only look at the suicidality rates to see how the hatred and stigma impacts trans kids and adults).
Additionally, when discussing the Fever’s lack of response to a question about the rally in the post-game presser, I was particularly shocked when discussing the lack of media availability around Sophie Cunningham, Zena mentioned Cunningham’s post of “I said what I said” after making the transphobic comments and that Cunningham speaks her mind and stands “ten toes down on it which you have to respect to a degree.”
That was really the final nail in the coffin for me. I do not think that being emboldened to spew hatred is something that we should “respect.” Sophie Cunningham certainly doesn’t respect trans kids or adults and it’s apparent that No Offseason doesn’t either.
I would suggest that transphobia become a subject that the hosts do look into and understand how trans kids and adults are negatively impacted by having their rights trampled over again and again.
And for now, I’ll be unsubscribing and encouraging others to do the same.

This has been my go-to basketball pod for the last couple years with great analysis and ways for me to catch up on games in the W. I held on after Ben left as the amount of analysis and basketball knowledge dipped, loved the addition of Layshia but still felt like the pod needed another basketball mind to bring back the details. Adding Annie has changed the dynamic in the opposite direction and I sadly had to hit the “unsubscribe” button after over 2 years. The pod is now more “hot takes”, rumor mill, and vibes than any true insights on the game. Cheers to a great run and hoping to find something like “The athletic women’s basketball show” that I used to listen to.
