This is my favorite read-along podcast. I love the chemistry between hosts, and their discussions have been a great way to revisit the comics of my childhood. Each host brings a different perspective and set of tastes, so it never feels like the same fan-boy opinions shared back and forth. They’re also not afraid to criticize beloved books of the 2000s and 2010s, and it’s refreshing to hear them break away from the “group think” that often celebrates comics that haven’t aged well. Dave is a wonderful guide for those trying to get into reading comics, and his experience writing reading lists for Comic Book Herald makes these books seem much more accessible. Charlotte’s contributions as a younger reader, with more previous exposure to European comics and manga, brings a unique perspective that’s not often heard on other comic book podcasts. Zack. Keep up the great work on the show, I can’t wait to hear what the team has in store for the future!
This has been an amazing journey listening to the podcast. Found them randomly in 2021 and they were only in the early 90’s worth of their Marvel comics run. Was drawn in by how well they covered everything from, ideology, seeing and reading the stories through a current day lens, cultural impacts, their banter, their point/counter-points, pure fun and above all, it’s a fantastic and entertaining listen. The duo eventually became a trio on the pod and managed to get even better. It’s a wild ride through the years and it’s still going strong. 10/10 would encourage listening. Be prepared to be challenged from a cultural
I’ve been listening to various comic podcasts for a long time but just stumbled onto My Marvelous Year and it is easily the best one! Going through the backlog of all the years of marvel comics has been a ton of fun and everyone is hilarious! Definitely worth subscribing to!
I’ve been listening and reading along for a few years now, and I’ve read from the beginning up to 1986. This podcast has allowed me to finally enjoy some of the early classics I’ve always heard about (Lee/ditko Spider-Man, coming of galactus, kree/skrull war) and even discover some runs/characters that I never knew of or thought I would like (panther’s rage, Shang-chi, Luke cage, search for eternity). After reading a comic that I like or love it’s always fun to get Zack’s and Dave’s (and eventually charlotte - can’t wait for her origin story) takes on the comics, including some historical context and little tidbits about the creators. Even if I hate one or more of the comics (secret wars 2 🤮) I can get some catharsis out of you guys dunking on them and making me laugh. I’ve gotten so much enjoyment out of the comics and the podcasts so thank you so much. I’ll leave you with this - my favorite run I read with you so far has got to be miller’s daredevil (thanks for including the entire run, it was well worth it); the run that surprised me the most was panthers rage, which I liked so much I was inspired to get a physical copy; and the run I disagree with you the most was Kree/skrull war, which I thoroughly enjoyed and thought it was the most interesting the avengers had ever been at that point, begins the vision/scarlet witch romance, brings ant-man back into the fray, and adds a ton of cosmic world building. I was disappointed to hear you both were bored by it but I’m so glad I got to read it. Keep up the great work! -Jason
