Every time I listen to this podcast, I’m reminded of just how rich and powerful our stories are. Each episode feels like opening a living archive of Black legends—voices that shaped culture, broke boundaries, and left fingerprints on history. I find myself replaying episodes because there’s always another gem to catch. Lena Waithe treats every guest with such reverence and ease, giving these giants the space to be fully seen in their brilliance and in their humanity. If anything, I just wish each conversation lasted longer. But what a gift this show is. Thank you, Lena.

Your interview style is so insightful and informative. I love the way that you ask questions based off of movies that we love parts of their lives that were turning points, and I just appreciate and love listening to your podcast.

Lena Waithe knows when to talk and ask questions and when to let her guests talk. One of the few podcasts where the host doesn’t make it about them. Which tells us so much about her as a person and allows us to really hear the guests.

Awesome Interview and Podcast. African Americans have had to struggle so long to get positions they are well qualified for. Although we know this, but when I listened to Debbie Allen say how long it took her to find work and how she was denied the opportunity to produce by a producer who had no scheme of reference for the topic he was creating was disheartening to hear. I’m sure this scenario happens a lot, but the pain of being dismissed due to the threat of not wanting to hire her level of talent/excellence (espy with her having so many accomplishments under her belt) was just another example of the racism and discrimination that is still happening to so many African Americans in this country. So, like Debbie said, “We need each other. All of us.”
