What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

What a breath of fresh air to listen to these brilliant historians discuss classical history and poetry. Unlike all the cringing I do as I listen to brilliant male historians, this podcast is a balm. And they’re really funny too.

Follow the fith · Nov 2025

There are a lot of history podcasts out there and many cover ancient history but none come close to Instant Classics. The topics are well chosen and, of course, expertly researched, and the presentation is lively and friendly. I can’t recommend Instant Classics enough!

Toasty Puppy · Nov 2025

I’m a new addict to this podcast. Even though it takes the best known facets of Greek and Roman ancient civilisation, it always makes me re-think them, with fresh information, intelligent analysis, bags of humour, and fabulously unpretentious and up-to-date discussion.

Alastair Macaulay · Oct 2025

I have listened to all of Mary’s media, from documentaries to intelligence squared debates, and she always does such thoughtful and inspiring work. With regards to this podcast, I am curious about the comparison between Trump and Sulla. It seemed like you all avoided that comp in the first episode for obvious reasons (Sulla paved the road to Caesar which led to the collapse of the republic), however I am still wondering how aligned their actions/approach to power are. Look forward to more from you both!
