This is an all-time favorite podcast for me. As a lifelong Swiftie (here since Debut), I don’t always agree with all of Nathan and Nora’s takes, but I genuinely love their warmth, opinions, and intense love for Taylor as an artist. They are a joy and a pleasure to listen to. I would listen to anything they made together, but I’m especially happy they chose to make this! Edit: I still really love this podcast, but Nathan, while usually lovely, says the strangest, most out-of-touch things at times. I was just warming back up to him recently, and the phrase “racehorses have great lives” exited his mouth. Why are you guys spending 60 seconds of fans’ listening time on Nathan saying insensitive things? I just don’t get it. Not every thought is meant to be heard by tens of thousands of people, so perhaps stronger editing is needed. Edit 2: Please never record Nora using a tin can again; that was unlistenable.

I love all pop music and am a big swiftie. I am definitely the right targeted audience. Keep up the great work!

As a longtime listener, I want to share a constructive, good-faith critique: in the last year or so, ESA has become increasingly focused on the question of which artists will rise to the top of the industry, and stay there. I find this focus on the popularity race and commercial success completely uninteresting. This podcast is at its best when it’s focused on the artists and the music. Streaming numbers are not the only factor in an artist’s success and cultural impact. I absolutely love listening to Nathan & Nora unpack music, lyrics, and albums. But that sometimes feels like an afterthought, even on the pods ostensibly dedicated to discussing an album. With love and respect, a longtime listener.

I just finished the Confessions II episode and, unfortunately, it was probably my least favorite overview of the album since it dropped. I found Nora and Nathan’s discussion surprisingly condescending and, at times, ageist toward Madonna. There were a lot of backhanded compliments that seemed to minimize her artistry, despite the countless collaborators over the years who have spoken about how deeply involved she is in every aspect of her music and visual projects. It also felt like Nathan’s perception of Madonna is still stuck in the 1989 version of her, rather than acknowledging the artist she’s become over the past 35+ years. The repeated comparisons to Taylor, Gracie, and Charli made it feel like the conversation was more about measuring Madonna against today’s pop stars than evaluating her work on its own merits. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this episode felt less like a balanced discussion and more like an exercise in dismissing her legacy. If the hosts are genuinely more enthusiastic about artists like Taylor, Gracie, and Charli, those conversations may simply be a better fit for their tastes. I usually enjoy the podcast, but this one missed the mark for me and I’m unfollowing.

I had never heard of this pod cast but always up for trying a new (to me) music related pod and the confessions II episode was the first I listened to… I couldnt make it to the end. Whoever the guy was in this duo needs to go back and listen to how condescending he comes across. Every comment sounded like he was constipated in trying to say what he felt- which was pretty obvious: he can’t stand Madonna and doesn’t think she has the ability to write and produce. Which is fine- she’s been getting that for years even though, had they done their homework, would have found numerous interviews with Stuart Price going into detail about the amount of production and writing Madonna is involved in with this and many other of her albums. The one two punch of sexism and ageism was pretty abysmal.
