Chapo Trap House

I’m not your demographic (50 yr old mom) but a fan of CTH. I haven’t listened in a while but I’ve never enjoyed anything more than the recent Movie Mindset series with Will and Hesse. I don’t even like horror movies but these episodes were so good. Please have these two do more. I would listen to them recap anything!

Weekly, discussion-based podcast focusing on current events. The three co-hosts--Will Menaker, Felix Biederman and Matt Christman--typically mock a variety of stories from mainstream media outlets or twitter. Occasionally episodes feature a guest interview. The quality of the discussion varies greatly week-to-week, but, at its best, CTH offers the finest, most insightful and funniest analyses of American politics anywhere.

This old leftie feels young again when I hear the sharp and insightful analysis on Chapo. Their no-holds-barred criticism of political drama and the personalities that are making it give me endless enlightenment and entertainment.

Pretty funny, pretty depressing. Like Nero fiddling while Rome burned, except unlike Nero these guys can’t do much of anything to put out the fire. Sit back and crack open a cold one to watch the death throes of late-stage capitalism and the American empire. Gotta love it!

I found the podcast to be juvenile and nihilistic. The hosts are insufferable and every time I listened to an episode I would come out feeling terrible. It comes across as bleak gallows humor that mocks the world being terrible while not offering a way forward. I’ve found leftist podcasts out there that can poke fun at our broken system while still encouraging listeners to fight on every front. This is not one of them.

A lot of the pop-culture centric episodes are pretty funny. But the political stuff has been pretty boring / played out since Bernie lost (again). 60% of no-guest political episodes go like this: Will reads someone else’s opinion article verbatim, interjecting to insult the author for having grown up in suburbia (or something similar).
