My daughters and I love this podcast. In each episode, award-winning public radio journalist and playwright Kitty Felde hosts a small group of elementary or middle school kids as they discuss a middle grade book that they've read.

There is so much magic here: the kids are always bright and thoughtful; Kitty Felde interviews them without an ounce of condescension. Her direct, engaging style draws real answers from the kids and the discussion often goes far beyond the content of the novels. As they discuss themes, the kids end up revealing personal opinions that offer a glimpse into the inner lives of kids and provide a good jumping-off point for conversation.

The celebrity readers have been excellent and the author interviews are wonderful - they really give you a sense of who the author is and why they write for kids.

And, not that it's the main thing here, but...

Book Club for Kids is the perfect "in the car with kids" podcast. Age-appropriate without being too childish for middle grade readers, the episode length is the exact time that it seems to take us to get anywhere and back back home again. Okay, I admit, that might be specific to our family, but it seems like everything I do with the kids is around 14 minutes away.

My fifth grade daughter and I wanted to find a podcast that we could both enjoy, and thankfully we just discovered Book Club For Kids. We spend a great deal of time in Silicon Valley traffic and wanted to find something to pass the time. Book Club for Kids is wonderful! Kitty Felde is an excellent moderator of conversation among children about middle grade books. I was pleasantly surprised that she includes interviews with the authors, and also fun, adult guests talking about their own favorite books. Frankly, I find many podcasts that are made for kids a little annoying due to the zany voices and sound effects. But not this one! This intelligent show fully captures my daughter's attention, and also keeps me completely engaged. After our first listen, my daughter re-read a book ("Wonder") that had been discussed on the show. Awesome!

What a spectacular way of engaging kids even further in the books they’re reading. Kitty asks great questions of her young readers, and the celebrity readers are fantastic. As a children’s author, and someone that just really believes in the power of engaged literacy, thank you for this.
