by Beyond the Human
From ghost stories to alien encounters to medical mysteries, every culture holds some belief in the paranormal. But why do so many of us believe in things that science can’t explain? On Beyond the Human, join two anthropologists as we explore the mysteries that unite us – strange experiences, supernatural beliefs, and the stories that stretch the limits of our understanding. Through global perspectives and personal insights, we dive into what these shared beliefs reveal about humanity – and what they might say about the unknown itself.

I like the idea of this podcast a lot, it covers really interesting topics. The hosts being anthropologists adds depth through an academic and interdisciplinary lens that sometimes can be lacking in other podcasts covering paranormal topics. That being said, the two episodes I’ve listened to so far (exorcisms and Morgellons,) the hosts have been a little flippant about the pronunciation of certain names of practices, people, dieties, etc. that I find can come off as slightly disrespectful and surprising coming from two people anthropologists. While I understand the idea of them putting down the academic rigor to just chat with a microphone, there is still a responsibility to hold up that standard of respect for the people and cultures involved in your stories, especially when speaking to an audience who is seeking to gain a better understanding of the topics being presented.
