In the early morning hours of July 4th, 2025, floodwaters tore through the Texas Hill Country. At least 130 people died, many of them children. For the last 12 months reporters from The Texas Newsroom have been talking to people about what happened that night and what it’s been like in the aftermath. They have done such a good job with this reporting. It’s a difficult balance to strike between the fact finding and the human element but this podcast does it beautifully. The heartbreak of this is beyond comprehension. I hope that everyone learns from this AND that changes are made.

After the Flood is journalism at its best. It tells a difficult story with care and integrity, using the real voices of victims in a way that feels authentic rather than exploitative. (Still, be in the right mindset before you start…) Instead of sensationalizing tragedy, it focuses on the people at the heart of the story, making for a thoughtful, powerful, and deeply respectful listen. Stoked for the rest of the series to drop.
