Megan Rapinoe has never been content to just play the game, on or off the field. In Why Are You Like This?, she sits down with the artists, athletes, activists, and architects of culture who share that same refusal and curiosity: people who looked at the way things were and decided to build something different. Each conversation moves between the personal and the professional, the origin story and the long game, the private cost and the public legacy. The result is a show that does what no other can: puts the most compelling person in the room across from the most compelling people in the world, and finds the human being every time. New episodes drop every Thursday starting August 6 on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts. From A Touch More and the Vox Media Podcast Network.

I am a huge women’s sports fan and an athlete myself. Sports has always been huge in my life. This podcast is the best one out there on sports, culture & humanity! I have been waiting my whole sports life for this attention and accessibility to female athletes and their stories. Megan and Sue know the issues and speak to the growth, challenges and opportunities that are happening in women’s sports in a way that makes the listener feel they are part of insider knowledge. I absolutely love it and savor every episode.
Long time (4 week) listener, first time reviewer. I have really been enjoying the pod. I love the sports hot takes from both Megan and Sue. Sue is clearly so knowledgeable and professional and Megan is as well, but is also so committed to being a hater, in the best way. Lots of great guests and discussions so far. The only ‘issue’ I have with the pod is that sometimes I cannot tell Megan and Sue’s voices apart. Big fan, will continue to listen.
First, to counter the 1 star review that just wrote, “Lesbians,” I would like to attribute my 5 stars to the fact that Megan and Sue are lesbians. You are courageous and inspiring, and I love to see you both thrive in your retirement together. Second, I love how well Megan and Sue address the social context of women’s athletics, with the breakdowns of the CBAs, the sense through which they examine media coverage of women’s sports, all of it. I listen every week and am always excited when there’s a new episode. I petition for some merch, please!
I consider myself a women’s sports podcast aficionada—from Late Sub with Claire to Attacking Third with Lisa & Sandra to the ReCap Show with Tobin & Christen to the Women’s Game with Sam, I love it all. But this one is simply above the rest. The way that Sue & Megan cover the most captivating topics at the intersection of women and sports is next level. They are sorting through topics in a way that *should* push forward society’s understanding and treatment of women in the sporting world and beyond. Keep ‘em coming gals!
