Gosh I was so excited about this podcast. We need something like this for the small sheep dairy world. First episode I listened to was Acorn and Fern and I was hooked! I immediately started to binge old episodes and quickly realized that the new host (Liv) is a great interviewer who lets the guests talk and keeps politics out of the conversation, and the original host (Rachel) just can’t seem to stay in the host seat! She’s so self-referential it’s draining, and the “bunny trails” are insufferable in some episodes. The episode with Sally Fallon had me pulling my hair out! So much JUDGMENT! The IVF comment in particular! Like WHAT?! I’ve kept listening but I’m teetering on a knife’s edge every time the personal anecdotes about her big, strong, raw-milk-drinking toddler come up! There’s enough information to share about sheep without the same tired talking points about the standard American diet and big ag. The Eco Flock guest was so good at gently pushing back on those sentiments with nuance. Clearly there is knowledge to share here. The book Rachel wrote is amazing! But I hope the hosts can find a balance that emphasizes less on the personal and political and more on creating space for guests to shine. When they manage to do that, the podcast is incredible.
The amount of information and knowledge Rachel and her guests share is staggering. I love to soak it all in as I prepare for our own flock. Such a joy to listen and anticipate becoming a shepherd!
I am so excited to have this podcast in my library of resources. Rachel is full of information on all things dairy sheep. I have read her book and follow her on Instagram, she is amazing! Highly recommend this one.
I’ve been binge listening to these episodes and love all the information I can glean from it. Dairy sheep are so underrated
