The Story Letter

I’ve been telling stories for years onstage for years, including winning a Moth GrandSLAM, and am currently teaching storytelling in San Diego. As soon as I listened to this, I thought, “Micaela Blei is saying everything I want to say but in such a fresh exuberant totally accessible and organized way—SHE can teach my class. Micaela Blei isn’t just teaching the art of storytelling, she’s teaching us that our stories, not just the big ones, matter. She lets us in on the secret that even the pros have the same storytelling insecurities that so many of us have - Is what I’m saying interesting? Does anyone care about my story? This podcast isn’t just for performers, it’s for all of us having conversations as we go about our daily lives. As a bonus, each episode includes a personal story from Micaela - the vulnerability in her stories, not just what she’s saying, but how she’s saying it, gives us permission and shows us how to be vulnerable in our own storytelling. I could listen to Micaela tell stories all day long! Also, be sure to listen to her outtakes at the end!

After listening to four episodes, I’m walking away from this. I’m actually really interested in learning about storytelling and improving that and a lot of content is good, but I don’t wanna have to worry about a random F bomb or other explicit language. Micaela, you’re a master storyteller and a master of the English language. Please find a way to communicate without swearing. It’s not needed and it’s frustrating to hear.
