The Daily Office Chanted

by Scott Dettra

The Daily Office Chanted offers Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and Compline every day, sung according to the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church in the ancient tradition of Gregorian chant. For centuries, Gregorian chant has given voice to Christian prayer. As the saying traditionally attributed to St. Augustine puts it, Qui cantat, bis orat (“He who sings, prays twice”)—a beautiful expression of how music can lift and deepen our prayers. The Daily Offices are sung by Scott Dettra, with service music drawn from The Hymnal 1982, psalms from The Plainsong Psalter, and Scripture readings from the NRSV. Links to these resources may be found in each episode’s show notes. The Daily Office Chanted is a listener-supported devotional ministry, offered free of charge and without advertising. If it has become part of your daily prayer, please consider supporting the ministry. Donation links are available in each episode’s show notes.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

If you’re looking for a new favorite Daily Office podcast, give this a try. It’s Morning and Evening Prayer, with the schedule of canticles prescribed in the BCP, and psalms on the seven-week cycle. If there’s a chant for anything in Hymnal 1982, it’s sung beautifully here, and psalms are out of Litton’s Plainsong Psalter, which is easy to procure. Collects at chanted, too. Anyone wanting to learn how to chant the Office would do well to use this. Great for the work/school commute, too. Strongly recommend.

Stunningly beautiful prayer sung to ancient melodies. This podcast has helped me to enter more deeply into daily prayer.

Crookshanks68 · Dec 2025

I love this podcast and I follow along in my Electronic BCP app. To make it even better (and it already is great) I’d love to see Saints day collects used and the occasional use of the confession.
