Beautifully told, touching, human story. I was hanging on to every minute of every episode. Thank you iO for taking us on your journey. And for the introduction to Light Asylum.
I’m listening to Billy Balls for the 4th time through, and I’m still crying and laughing and feeling every emotion as if it were the first time. I’ve listened to A LOT of podcasts, and this one absolutely tops the charts. The content is captivating, the characters rich and engrossing. It’s super well edited and excellently reported. IMHO, Billy Balls is one of the best podcasts ever made. Perfection!
This podcast ruined all other podcasts for me for a while but then I discovered Payne Lindsey. Neil Strauss. Marc Smerling. This is probably still my favorite podcast so far though and it definitely set the standard for comparison against other podcasts, weeding out the good from the not so good so thanks to iO T-W for raising/setting the bar in my absolute podcast obsession! You’ve created a snob in me. R.I.P. BILLY BALLS!!
This is one of the BEST podcasts I’ve ever listened to! So we’ll done. I loved the mix of trying to figure out the crime but also all the interpersonal, trauma revealing, humanness to it. I seriously binged this, could not stop listening. Well done 👍🏽 👏🏼👏🏼
When I first listened to this podcast, I really enjoyed it. However, now knowing that Io is a liar, perjurer, protector of an abuser, who also objectified a teenager for their own purposes, my feelings have changed. As a result, the entirety of the pod lacks credibility, and I now think that this podcast was a means to promote themselves at the expense of their mother. As a victim of DV and SV, that Io would lie for and protect a violent abuser disgusts me.
So basically, the RFK tapes season is the story of the host exploiting an old family friend to use his collection of tapes (and thus have a show), and then allows one of said friends old rivals to take over the show and make said friend look like a fool (with an assist from the friend himself, obviously). I’m not super invested in the details of the RFK assassination, but I think if you’re going to hang an old friend and co-host out to dry, you at least owe him the courtesy of stress testing and examining the weak points of his old rival’s (Moldea?) theory, too. Why let him brush aside the complicating factor of his own theory (namely, the “girl in the polka dot dress”) with a “well, I never bought into that”. This show spent a whole episode presenting multiple witness accounts of seeing the girl with Sirhan before the murders and you’re just going to let him shrug it off with a “meh” because there was no second gun in the room, after all?!? Ok, lol. Hardly fair to the co-host, though.
