My Victorian Nightmare

by Genevieve Manion

Here you’ll find mysterious deaths, morbid fascinations, disturbing stories, and otherwise spooky events from the Victorian Era. For ad-free listening, witchy content, Victorian True Crime Extras and Dark Poetry, join The Fan Coven! If you consider yourself an enthusiast of creepy Victorian history, you probably already know about the age of spiritualism, the grisly murders, the grave robbers, twisted pseudo psychotherapy, and memento mori – But I try to dig a little deeper. This was a time full of lace corsetry, romantic poetry, and a deep reverence and affection for the dead. It was a culture of shared sorrow, ornament and elegance, prudishness and scandal, bone chilling children’s stories, and for whatever reason, I just feel at home there. There’s something strangely comforting about the heebie jeebies this era gives me. If you find yourself equally enchanted by things that most people would find horrifying, this podcast is probably for you. To listen ad-free, visit myvictoriannightmare.com and join my Patreon.

What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

This podcast is so well done! While I wasn’t a big fan of the multiple headlines format from a few days ago, overall, it’s consistently fantastic. I absolutely recommend it. Genevieve Manion has the most soothing and relaxing voice—it’s a pleasure to listen to. I tune into My Victorian Nightmare with full attention, but I often fall asleep to her Dark Poetry—in the best way. I’m one of the guys who listens… does that make me part of the coven? 😉 Listen to her voice—you’ll understand. Love the podcast! Keep up the great work. ⸻ Let me know if you want a more casual or more formal tone!

Love every episode, but oddly adore the most recent episode about corpse medicine. I don’t know how Genevieve does it, but she educates us AND manages to infuse some humor. Something about thinking about the whole “human brisket” thing (the flesh being soaked over and over and left in the sun) made me giggle.

NicoleLenore · May 2025

I love Genevieve’s voice. And I’ll be honest, I listen to her when I want to go to sleep. She had such a cozy, Victorian vibe. The stores are so interesting I find myself fighting to stay away but her beautiful voice always lulls me to sleep despite the wild topics.

Can’t hold a candle · May 2025

I’m so glad I found this podcast! Ms. Manion is irreverent, outspoken and passionate about the subject matter. She cites her sources and cares about accuracy. As an added bonus, her voice is silky smooth and soothing to listen to. More, please!
