No one, and I mean NO ONE, has a healthier view of the Lions than Dery. He’s not some bandwagon guy that tells those that drink the Kool-Aid what they want to hear. He’s not someone that is negative just to be negative. I mean, there have been a lot or reasons to be negative.

He breaks down the games, the team and the front office with an educated and objective view of what he actually sees on the field. Not to mention, with 20 years of being a member of the Detroit media, he has the contacts and is an insider. Knowledgable, honest and down to earth. Love listening to the Diesel.

If your a true die hard Detroit Lions fan then this is the only podcast you need. I live in Chicago now and grew up in Detroit with the Lions. I listen to every ” Locked on Lions “ podcast for over a year now. It’s real. No bull, by far the best and I’ve listened to all the other podcasts. This is the only podcast you will need.

Matt Dery is an institution - no doubt about it. Locked on Lions is one of the best podcasts in the great City of Detroit and THE go-to source for daily updates and expert opinions.

Perfect mix of news, guests, and opinions. Matt runs a great show both in and off-season. I love this show for my drive to work. It’s a great daily listen for me!

I have listened to this podcast for years and it does help me stay aware of what is happening with the team but Lions fans deserve better. When the host threatened to quite the podcast if the team lost again, I started listening to the host of the Lions opposing team and I learned three things.
1. They do so much more research. I understand this podcast is just his side hustle but it doesn’t feel like that for other locked on hosts. They do research of the opponents and film breakdowns to support their takes. Matt Dery does the PFF top and bottom five for offense and defense each week. He relies on guests to bring the informed takes and his “crack research staff” that I assumed he was saying as reference to his own research but then he clarified that they are real, he just wont name them. Probably because someone will ask them to take over the show if he really does shine the spotlight on them.
2. They are not all talk radio guys. Dery does bit radio with insider nicknames that he will not stop using like “Hall of Fields” implying that everyone thinks that Justin Fields will go to the hall of fame when I have never heard that take from anyone even in Chicago media. He calls anzalone “gaines media posterboy” and nobody even knows what that means.
3. They adjust their opinions. He won’t let go of old takes. He has been calling the front office 222 rod wood drive for so long that now when GM Brad Holmes looks competent Rod Wood seems irrelevant.
The show has the feel of a college coach that runs the same scheme until it is not effective anymore and he gets run out of town. I know Dery does great ad reads and has been with David Locke since the beginning, but Lions fans deserve real research, thoughtful takes, and something new.
