After Shows · Erika Ensign and Steven Schapansky
by Erika Ensign and Steven Schapansky
Steven Schapansky (Radio Free Skaro, The Memory Cheats) and Erika Ensign (Verity!, Total Party Kill) are married Doctor Who fans (who also co-produce a fiction podcast for Uncanny Magazine). This is a podcast where they watch every Doctor Who story ever made, from start to finish. Each episode is recorded live on a red couch. No, they have no “schedule”. They’re lazy. Want proof? I started watching Classic Who because of Sutekh because I don’t think you can get the full impact of the season finale without watching the Classic arc. RTD is mining from the Classics so I wanted to learn more about the Classic villains in particular. This podcast is a great way to add more detail, context and depth to the Classic episodes and the hosts have great chemistry! I love Radio Free Skaro and this was recommend by the hosts and I love it!
I have tried a lot of Doctor Who podcasts but never found one that worked for my interests. I love podcasts that go episode by episode, and don’t spend all their time hating on the thing I love. Turns out that is a big ask. I am happy to say, I have found a home in Lazy Doctor Who. Many episodes into this podcast I can say, this is the one for me. Delightful people who love the material and are very knowledgeable means they can be lazy and still have an absolutely wonderful podcast.
A wonderful way to rewatch Doctor Who with fresh eyes! As a long time fan, I’m well accustomed to viewing out of sequence ( starting with four, for example) but a rewatch in sequence brings changes in perspective and fan wisdom!
I love Steven and Erica from other podcasts like The Memory Cheats and Verity!, so it was a foregone conclusion that I'd love them together in Lazy Doctor Who. It's great fun to hear their thoughts on these stories and I appreciate the "surprise" element (ie - the lazy part!) of never knowing when new episodes will show up in my feed. Looking forward to following along with them throughout the history of Doctor Who!
