Music Interviews · John "Jughead" Pierson
by John "Jughead" Pierson
Jughead's Basement is hosted by Screeching Weasel, Mopes, and Even In Blackouts' co-founder John Jughead Pierson. The podcast has three subcategories: Dissections of punk records. Long-form interviews of punk & alternative musicians, comedians, and underground performers. Plus, lastly, an old fashion radio adventure that tells the twisted tale of two men attached to one body roaming an unknown mansion meeting and interviewing different guests every episode.

Long time listener and love every level of evolution John has put into this podcast. The origional concept of breaking down albums which morphed into lofi interviews with hifi guests and recently catching up with friends as a repeat guest segment have all been incredible. As a longtime lover of og pop punk I love learning more about how that scene transpired but John takes it much further that rehashing the past as well as catching up with what the who’s who of that genera have been up to. Everything from chats with favorite comedians like Kyle Kinane, business talk with the creator of Liquid Death and Larry Livermore (Lookout Records), as well as Mass Georgini’s (master producer of Sonic Iguana studios and squirtgun singer and Bass) authority of knowledge on Don Quixote, and philosophy talk with everyone that will venture that road. I learn something from every single episode. Thank you!
Jughead brings a unique style to interviewing with great insight and I love way he edits any corrections or insights directly into the podcast. Unmatched guest list.
John’s episodes have evolved over the years. He continuous to do an amazing job digging into the background of each guest which helps him to engage in an interesting and effective manner. I have come to learn many facts and back stories on many of my favorite bands and musicians, esp most recently both Vindictives and Kody T (Lillingtons, SACK and TBR). I also appreciate that John doesn’t only stick to guests within the genre of his own bands. Recommended!
I always look forward to new episodes. Jughead has a warm and friendly conversational style with just a touch of silliness. His interviews are thoughtful and informative and great for any fans of punk or punk-adjacent music.
