Just when I thought I had heard ALL there was to hear from podcasts reviewing the G1 cartoon…I stumbled onto what is probably the BEST of these! Jerzy & Hoover talk about the original 1980s Transformers with such joy & exuberance that it’s contagious…providing fresh insights from their own experience, rather than dredging up the same old talking points that’ve been littered across the internet for years & years. They DO provide criticism when it’s called for, but they do so without a hint of that tired old Gen X cynicism (which tends to corrode a lot of modern discussions of this material). After all, if something’s lasted for over 40 years, it must be because it’s actually GOOD…right? This podcast places an emphasis on what many artists, writers, and other talented people worked very hard on, long ago, and why their work STILL has a lasting impact on many people around the world, all these years later.
Thanks so much for creating this podcast! You two have such a great chemistry and I look forward to each and every episode! You’ve created such a welcoming and thought provoking listen. Thoughtful conversations about characters, themes, childhood memories and of course the toys gave me such a feeling of relatedness.
Have enjoyed this podcast since it started.. From Jerzy’s insights into storytelling to Hoover’s brilliant theories and choice 80s toy commercial selects.. the pair seem to strike the right balance effortlessly. A thoughtful, sincere and funny approach to a cartoon series that I loved so much as a child. Andreas, Greece.
I was a bigger fan of the Transformers comic book as a kid and never really appreciated the cartoon. Jerzy and Hoover have kindled a new love for this series that I never believed I would have. I hope they decide to continue this podcast covering Beast Wars and Beast Machines, rounding out the G1 continuity.
