What listeners say

A curated, balanced selection of Apple Podcasts reviews.

I came across this podcast when I was trying to find people talking about my favorite show, Re:Zero. Stumbled across this show and one of the hosts pretty much picked it apart. However, I also found myself agreeing with most of his points. Remington is an opinionated man, but he is not a bandwagon hater. He forms his own opinions and sticks to them. I’m sincerely glad I found this podcast because it’s genuinely entertaining to listen to Remington ramble on while crushing Shaun’s hope that Remington won’t make controversial opinions.

I stumbled across this podcast while searching for anime to show my kids (11 &9) and it has helped some. Unfortunately the majority of anime is made by perverts so I didn’t end up with a treasure trove here. I did encounter a wonderful experience of hearing a realistic approach to anime as a whole. While I do agree with Remington on most of his points, I also agree with Shaun on some things. The dual perspectives provide a very nice counter to each other and make it where you can easily recommend this to people who like anime and people who don’t as well. I appreciate this content and will continue to listen. If I were to make a recommendation of something that I would like to hear it would be the Mononoke series by Kenji Nakamura.

If you’re listening to this podcast in search of validation or consensus regarding your opinions on anime, you’ve most definitely come to the wrong place. Longtime otaku Shaun introduces his friend and anime newbie Remington to the overwhelmingly vast world of anime with a new show or movie every episode. After watching off-pod, they return to the mic to discuss their uncensored impressions, and verbal carnage ensues. Remington never holds back with his nitpicking, griping, and pessimism in his attempts to find something dissatisfactory, whether it be a tried-and-true classic beloved by most or something widely accepted as mediocre. They even cover some of the more unpopular anime for the cringe factor and so Shaun can delight in Remington’s reactions. While I sometimes agree with Remington’s more cynical takes, his often contrarian views seem more than likely to be just that—an attempt to play the role of the otaku antithesis, opposite his cohost Shaun, who is often doing his best to highlight the positive aspects and appreciate the anime he shares on the pod. While they claim not to be experts at critiquing and reviewing, Remington’s exacting criticism and Shaun’s upbeat attitude make this podcast an entertaining and informative listen for the anime community. If you want to know every single thing wrong with that anime you grew up loving, then press play, then quickly duck and cover!

My favorite podcast by far. It’s positively hilarious and has good criticisms. Not always ones I completely agree with, but that just adds to the fun. I also love the awareness of women and LGBTQ issues present in the show and the willingness to call anime out when they handle these horribly. It’s such a breath of fresh air given how terrible many anime (and a lot of the anime community) are with these issues and helps make me feel seen :)
