The show is pretty good and a regular in my podcast rotation… but first let me tell you a little about Geico. And then a little later about Tommy John … and don’t forget Dodge… really the sponsor plugs without transition are annoying and frankly jarring at times. For example, one of the hosts will seem to queue up a point about the car or subject at hand but it will be a random timed plug for one of their sponsors. Hearkens back to when some radio programs would have hosts seamlessly present a news topic and then plug an advertiser offering. Real negative. In addition to all this, there are standard advertisements not read by hosts. A lot of ads! That out of the way, the car content and dialogue especially when delivered by Carolla is very good and engaging. Matt’s taste in vehicles and motorsports align well with mine; and (unsurprisingly) he’s a fantastic and entertaining storyteller and observer of people. The rest of the crew (D’Andria and Goldberg) are fine enough, though tastes in vehicles diverge from mine (muscle cars are great, but personally have no interest at all in any truck projects like the long-running Ford Lightning effort…really don’t get it). Alistair Weaver from Edmunds is insightful whenever on, with very relevant and engaging discussion.
I really love this podcast, and I’ve been a listener for several years. I love Adam’s humor, Matt is a super knowledgeable “Everyman”, Alistair is a huge asset. Th only problem is that Goldberg adds nothing to the conversation. He doesn’t actually seem to know anything about cars. All he does is sell Dodge and horsepower. He’s not a car guy. He’s a rich guy. I’m actually going to stop listening to the show because he’s such an obnoxious Dodge salesman. If he leaves, I’ll be a listener again!
Matt and Goldberg’s Show is much improved with Alistar’s appearances. Interesting to hear the current car news and their opinions. Having that third person keeps the conversation flowing more easily too. Keep up the good work!
With the crop of auto and racing enthusiast podcasts growing and getting ever better, this one still sits at the top of my “must listens”. Our hosts live the topic. They are insightful and entertaining with the added bonus of a good Carolla rant as the frosting.
Quite entertaining, but host is not very knowledgeable about cars compared to other car enthusiast podcasts.
I used to listen regularly but interests changed so I stopped. Coming back a few years later the show is very disappointing. Much less focus than before, much more schilling, a clear emphasis on cash flow rather than content. Counter example is the smoking tire which has much better balance. Last 2 points. I don’t need politics on a car podcast and matt d is a total lackey/minion/pathetic yes man who I can’t stand. Sorry but there are better alternatives these days.
